Casanare lies north of the Meta department. In contrary of the Meta this department is less developed in agriculture and cattle breeding, especially if you decide to travel deeper into the department. During the rainy season big parts of this department are flooded, because of this some areas of the Casanare are perfect to spot wildlife. This place is perfect for bird spotters as a lot of migration birds come here. Besides birds it is a great place for spotting alligators, monkeys, giant anteaters, capybaras , foxes, dear, wild boars, turtles, tapirs, freshwater dolphins, snakes and many more. With a bit of luck and patience it is also possible to spot the anaconda (which can grow to enormous lengths in these areas), the jaguar and the puma.

The best time for wildlife spotting is in the dry season when water is scarce or during the transfer from dry to rainy season. During that time you can find almost all the above mentioned animals at the side of the road from Yopal deeper inland. During the rainy season it also possible to spot wildlife but more difficult because of the abundance of water and the state of the roads which makes transport very difficult. But don´t let the weather influence your visit to this amazing area, sunshine or rain this is a great adventure destination.

The ecolodges that we use in the mentioned package are located at 5 to 6 hours from Yopal. The easiest way to get there is to fly from Bogota to Yopal and to take a 4x4 jeep to the ecolodge, it is also possible to arrange a program with transport from Bogota. The first ecolodge is a farm in a Nature Reserve named 'La Esperanza'. The infrastructure on this farm is not that developed that it meets all tourisms needs, but on the other hand that gives you the opportunity to not only see but also experience the real life in this typical area of Colombia. The second ecolodge lies in the nature area Hato la Aurora. Here the tourism infrastructure is more developed, which makes staying here an adventure package with some comfort.

Both destinations we offer as a custom made program but we also decided to show an example four day package. The activities during this program will be on 2 and 3 day and depend on the client. To get to know the area you need to walk, ride horses and need 4x4 transportation and these activities are included in the program. It is also possible to explore the area by boat or on of the rivers or lakes in the area.

If a trip inland Casanare is a bit too adventurous for your taste then we can still offer Casanare but with a stay in Yopal or on a farm in the direct area. Ask us for more information and the possibilities.

Important : During the rainy season it can be very difficult to reach the ecolodges even with a (4x4) jeep. If this will be the case we can only visit Hato la Aurora using water transport.

Day 1:
Flight Bogota-Yopal and we will be awaited by our transport on the airport. Then we will go in our 4x4 jeeps to the chosen ecolodges for the first night. If you decide to stay in the ecolodge Hato la Aurora then it is also possible to take the boat over the Rio Ariporo to the ecolodge, this is only possible when the water level in the river is high enough usually this is the case during rainy season.

Day 2:
The whole day filled with activities like ecological walks, horse riding, fishing, tours in the boat over the river and/or more, tours for flora & fauna spotting etc. The possible activities can be discussed on the ecolodge.

Day 3:

Day 4:
Transport in 4x4 jeep back to the aiport of Yopal and a flight back to Bogota. If you decided to stay in the  ecolodge Hato la Aurora then it is also possible to take the boat back over the Rio Ariporo to the airport.
